SO YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE MRI SCAN????
Your doctor has arranged for you to have an MRI. What is MRI? Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a medical technology that uses a magnetic field and rafio-waves to examine the internal organs of our body.
It does not use x-rays. The pictures produced during the scan can help your doctor define the differences between healthy and diseased tissues.
The scan pictures provide valuable information to help your doctor choose the most suitable treatment for you.

WHEN THE SCAN IN PROGRESS....
Simple and painless— you will lie flat on a padded table whisch is designed to slide into the centre of the magnet.
Keep very very still— once you are comfortably positioned, it is important that you remain relaxed and completely still during the scan. Movement will result in unclear images and will need to repeat the scanning.
During the scanning— While the machine is in operation, you will hear intermittent humming and thumping sounds common to all MRI equipment. Ask for ear plugs if the sound bothers you . You will have all times, voice contact with the radiographer who will observe you clearly from the control room on the video monitor. If you need attention, please press the call buzzer given to you.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE ?
Depending on the information that your doctor needs, the scan can take between 15 to 45 minutes.
WHEN ENCHANCING THE SCAN IMAGE IS REQUIRED..
In some cases the radiologist may order an image enhancement agent. This is a solution which is given as an injection into vein in your arm. If this is needed, it does not mean that your condition is more serious. So do not worry. It simply means that the radiologist wants a clearer picture.
The radiologist will review the images obtained during the scan to check that they are clear. The report will be sent to your doctor who will then discuss the scan results with you.
